Development of dechlorinating consortia for bioremediation. Dechlorinating enrichments

Enrichments of autochthonous dehalorespiring communities originated from contaminated areas are appropriate to accelerate bioremediation processes with site specific bioaugmentation agents. Our aim was to develop dechlorinating microbial inocula by isolating consortia from short-chain chlorinated hydrocarbon contaminated groundwater, and their enrichment in microcosm experiments. The most effective enrichments were selected to produce bioaugmentation cultures.
