VPRS 15258 General Correspondence Files, Alpha-Numeric System

This series comprises correspondence files created by the Shire of Ararat Water Board. The files contain inward and copies of outward correspondence relating to the function of water and sewerage administration.The contents of the files data back to 1945 and were created by VA 2045 Willaura Sewerage Authority and VA 2056 Shire of Ararat Waterworks Trust. In c.1987 the records were top numbered into a new alpha-numeric system by the Shire of Ararat Water Board.Evidence suggests that the general correspondence files for the Shire of Ararat Water Board were maintained by the Shire Council. Such evidence includes the same postal address and the same people during particular periods of time signing the correspondence. Similar control systems were used and were changed at the same time. (This is explained below). Despite this, correspondence in relation to Water matters, and which comprised correspondence under the letterhead of the Shire of Ararat Waterworks Trust, was maintained separately to the Shire's general correspondence files.The contents date range of this record series ends in 1991. It can be assumed that correspondence in relation to water matters was recorded within the Shire's main general correspondence system from that date.
