Hermetia illucens genome and transcriptome data

Black soldier fly larvae, Hermetia illucens (Diptera: Stratiomyidae), can be utilized as alternative protein sources due to their ability to convert organic waste into high-quality protein. To enable future social implementation of their use, it will be necessary to improve beneficial traits, such as increasing efficiency in consuming waste during the larval stage. One approach to achieving this is through genetic modification techniques, including genome editing, to alter genes associated with these traits. In order to identify target genes for such modifications, reference genome and transcriptome data are essential. In this project, we have constructed both reference genome sequences and transcriptome data for H. illucens.
