Pilot Drug Factory Microbiome Project: Machine inner and outer parts. factory metagenome

This project was launched to benchmark culture-independent microbiome analysis in drug-manufacturing units producing antibiotics and non-antibiotic drugs, against traditional microbial identification and quantification techniques. Samples were collected from machines producing antibiotic (kanamycin and amoxicillin) and non-antibiotic (acetaminophen) drugs, within a pharmaceutical factory in Egypt. The samples were collected at two time points that are 4 months apart. Data from this pilot study will be used for further optimization and design of a more systematic factory microbiome study.
