Bradyrhizobium sp. AT1 was isolated from storage roots of sweet potato. The inoculation of AT1 to sweet potatoes resulted in increase in the fresh weight and detection of ARA in the inoculated plants. These results indicate AT1 actively expresses nitrogenase in sweet potatoes. The draft genome sequence is determined to understand the evolutionary history of nitrogen fixation genes.
