The Market Penetration Rate (MPR) reflects the cumulative share of green building–certified floor space within a country’s total building stock for a given year. To produce this indicator, certified floor area data were gathered from major global certification systems and Green Building Councils, while national building stock figures were sourced from the International Energy Agency. Certified floor space from 2014 to 2024 was cleaned, standardized, and aggregated, then compared against IEA’s building stock estimates to calculate the proportion of certified area relative to total floor area. Although certification data are self-reported by the contributing entities, the MPR offers a consistent, cross-country view of green building adoption over time.
