Images and Site Records from an Archaeological Evaluation at Calder�Park�South,�Stoneyholme,�Burnley, Lancashire, August 2022

This collection comprises images and site records from a trial trench evaluation at the site of Calder Park South, Stoneyholme, Burnley. This work was undertaken by Oxford Archaeology (North) in August 2022. Archaeological remains were largely absent, with seventeen of the eighteen trenches containing nothing more than modern formation layers. One of the trenches did identify a brick structure, which, based on the materials of its construction, was of postmedieval origin. By virtue of its location, this likely related to part of the Industrial era tramway system, although it appeared in isolation and possessed little to indicate its original purpose. Given its likely association with the tramway, it is suggested that it represented some form of support for ancillary machinery or other structures.
