NEON Macroinvertebrate DNA Barcodes - 2017

This study provides the sequence data for the NEON data product, macroinvertebrate DNA barcode (NEON.DP1.20126). The goal of the NEON macroinvertebrate DNA barcoding project is to track changes in the diversity and composition of macroinvertebrates in aquatic ecosystems through space and time. NEON collects benthic macroinvertebrates from sites distributed across the United States. Total genomic DNA is extracted and the CO1 gene of the macroinvertebrate community is sequenced using high-throughput methods. Multiple portions of the CO1 gene (such as the BE or F230 regions) may be separately amplified and sequenced for each sample in order to more completely capture macroinvertebrate diversity.
