A propolis-resistant Saccharomyces cerevisiae mutant strain was obtained using an evolutionary engineering strategy based on successive batch cultivation under gradually increasing propolis levels. The mutant strain FD 11 was selected at a propolis concentration that the reference strain could not grow at all. Whole-genome transcriptomic analysis of FD11 was performed with respect to its reference strain to determine differences in gene expression levels between the two strains. Saccharomyces cerevisiae Agilent Yeast One-Color DNA microarray systems were used for comparative whole-genome transcriptomic analysis of the selected mutant FD 11 and its reference strain. Prior to gene expression analysis, each culture was grown in triplicate in yeast minimal medium (YMM) at 30°C and 150 rpm. Total RNA isolation was carried out, using RNeasy Mini Kit (Qiagen) at early exponential phase of growth (OD600 ~1.0).
