Determining the number of dimensions of genetic variation in a population is key to understanding the nature of multivariate evolution. We assessed fitness variation of 18 wild-collected Chlamydomonas reinhartii lines in 30 environments (GxE), and used 2bRAD genotyping (Wang et al. 2011, Nature Methods) of the lines to assess how sequence variation compared with the dimensionality of the GxE G-matrix.
