BTFER

BTFER is a novel facial expression dataset designed for cross-domain validation, containing 2100 labeled images corresponding to seven basic emotion categories. This dataset aims to address the key challenges encountered by existing facial expression recognition methods in real-world applications, such as environmental diversity, data quality issues and class imbalance. During the dataset creation process, a large number of images were first collected from the web, followed by rigorous manual curation to ensure the integrity of the dataset. Subsequently, MTCNN was utilized to automatically locate and crop facial regions, and all facial images were finally uniformly resized to 256×256 pixels. The application fields of BTFER cover intelligent marketing, AR/VR devices, mental state measurement and social interaction, with the core goal of improving the performance and generalization ability of facial expression recognition models in real-world scenarios.
