Benthoscope test dive from crane barge, "Cherry Picker", Emerald Bay, Santa Catalina Island, Channel Islands, California, USA, 1949 October. Among the men on the barge was Maurice Nelles (baseball cap, light blue jacket, white short-sleeve shirt, tan pants), the designer of the benthoscope. Otis Barton (black jacket, tan pants) was in the benthoscope. Filmed from the Velero IV. “In old California” – container. “Deep dive Koda [sic, i.e. Kodak or Kodachrome] orig[inal]” – on leader. 24 frames per second. 151.8 feet. Only partially transferred due to severe shrinkage and curling of original film.
