Short-chain fatty acids enhanced muscle mass and function through the activation of mTOR signaling pathways in sarcopenic mice

Sarcopenia is a prevalent muscle disorder in old people, and related to higher fracture rate, mortality, and other adverse clinical outcomes. Evidence indicates that short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) as beneficial gut microbial metabolites, were reduced in old people with sarcopenia. This study determined to utilize a preclinically interventional study design to explore whether the SCFAs supplement can be a therapeutic strategy of sarcopenia.
