BACKGROUND The distribution models for feature films in Australia have long been established with little variance. With this research the researcher in his role as Executive Producer on this project tests a new kind of model that takes into its scope the political dimension of the subject matter of the film. CONTRIBUTION CHASING ASYLUM explores the mental, physical and fiscal consequences of Australia's decision to lock away families in unsanitary conditions hidden from media scrutiny, destroying their lives under the pretext of saving them. The film features never before seen footage from inside Australia¿s offshore detention camps, revealing the personal impact of sending those in search of a safe home to languish in limbo. The film had significant success theatrically by championing events screenings, partnering with activist and human rights organisations, and using cinema on demand partner TUGG. These screenings were used as an attempt to change public opinion and raise funds for the campaign supporting Asylum seekers SIGNIFICANCE The distribution approach in this work was critical in the treatment of this topical and sensitive subject matter. The dissemination of information and the social impact of the material unearthed in the film has been recognised by numerous awards and critical acclaim, which gives credence for this revision of distribution practices. HRAFF, 2016; Hot Docs 2016; AACTA award Best Feature Length Documentary; 'one of the most important documentaries ever made in this country' (Herald Sun); 'a powerful plea' (Variety); 'a viscerally intense expose' (The Guardian)
