Studies on the bacterial community dynamics might bring important information about the recovery of the impacted areas, since it can respond differently when exposed to a disturbance. This research aimed to evaluate the effect of the sudden discharge of a huge quantity of tailings on freshwater (water and sediment) into bacterial communities at spatial and temporal scales. To this end, taxonomic data from impacted rivers were contrasted to a reference river on similar hydrological regimes. This could allow the identification of indicator taxa for the assessment of water quality. Moreover, this study provides insights on microbial response facing a situation of sudden environmental stress.
