Advancing Sexual Health through AI-Powered Interventions: Web and AI-based Risk Assessment Tool and GenAI Chatbot

This thesis explores how artificial intelligence (AI) can improve sexual health through two innovative applications. The research comprises eight studies: seven focus on MySTIRisk, a tool that assesses the risk of sexually transmitted infections, and one on Alice, a genAI chatbot designed to provide sexual health information. The MySTIRisk studies follow the complete journey from initial development to external validation. The chatbot study investigates whether AI can safely and accurately provide users with accurate and reliable sexual health information. Together, this work provides evidence for using AI to enhance sexual health services and has successfully bridged research with real-world impact through the commercialisation of MySTIRisk.
