Pedestrian movement counts

Brisbane City Council collects pedestrian movement data from line breaking sensors located in key economic precincts, including Queen Street Mall, Brunswick Street Mall, and Chinatown Mall. These sensors support the monitoring of activity in public spaces to inform economic development initiatives and assist with the management of these areas. The sensors detect all movement across the sensor line, regardless of mode of transport, and are unable to distinguish between people and non-person objects. As such, the data represents counts of movements rather than the number of unique individuals. For privacy protection, when movement counts are below 25, values are not reported as exact figures and are instead shown as “< 25” using the Prefix field. At times, some data may be estimated due to temporary sensor or network issues. Where this occurs, values will be flagged in the dataset using the is_calculated field (0 = observed value, 1 = estimated value) and later updated when actual data becomes available. Movement counts map: This dataset features a custom map where the number displayed in a cluster represents the total movement count for the clustered locations. Unlike the standard open data map, where the number represents the number of data rows in the cluster, this map displays the total movement count.
