Methane oxidation driven by aerobic methanotrophs in mountain soils plays fundamental roles in atmospheric methane sinks and global warming alleviation. Currently, less is known on how aerobic methanotrophs assemble in mountain ecosystems and the drivers responsible for this process. Here, by appreciating a diverse array of habitats along the large-scale altitudinal gradients (1800 - 4100 m) in a mountain ecosystem, we investigated the shifts of community composition and diversity, the drivers and community assembly mechanism of methanotrophic bacteria.
