Knowledge, Perception, and Acceptance of Caesarean Section among Pregnant Women Attending Antenatal Care at Bosaso General Hospital, Puntland, Somalia: Dataset and Supporting Materials

This dataset and supporting materials accompany the study titled “Knowledge, Perception, and Acceptance of Caesarean Section among Pregnant Women Attending Antenatal Care at Bosaso General Hospital, Puntland, Somalia: A Facility-Based Cross-Sectional Study.” The study was conducted at Bosaso General Hospital, Bosaso, Puntland, Somalia, from 1 January to 15 March 2026, using a facility-based descriptive cross-sectional design. Data were collected from 384 pregnant women attending antenatal care using a structured questionnaire. The repository contains the de-identified study dataset, questionnaire, data dictionary/codebook, README file, and reproducible analysis files for Stata and SPSS. The dataset includes socio-demographic and obstetric characteristics, knowledge of Caesarean section, perceptions of Caesarean section, willingness to accept Caesarean section when medically indicated, and reported barriers to acceptance. The nine knowledge items (Q7–Q15) showed an unusual identical within-respondent response pattern and are therefore reported descriptively rather than as a validated knowledge score. The seven-item perception composite is exploratory and demonstrated poor internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = −0.16); analyses based on this composite should therefore be interpreted cautiously. No personally identifying information is included in the deposited dataset.
