NRS-8452 | Letters received from Gold Commissioners [Department of Lands]

This series includes letters sent by Gold Commissioners for the Western, Southern and Northern Districts to: the Surveyor General reporting upon applications for the purchase of land, requests for the survey of claims etc.; and to the Secretary for Lands and Works submitting monthly reports, returns of miners' rights and business licences, giving notice of the proposed transit of gold by escort and forwarding invoices of gold sent to the Mint. There is also a quarterly report on the Western Gold District for 1858 sent to the Colonial Secretary as well as the monthly reports sent by sub-gold commissioners to the gold commissioners of their respective districts and a report submitted to the Secretary for Lands and Works by the Board meeting to draw up Regulations under Act 20 Vic. no.29 for the Management of the Gold Fields. These records were permanently transferred to the Mines Department from the Lands Department in March 1909 at the request of the Mines Department. (2/3511A). 1 box.
