LEGAL CHALLENGES OF ALIGNING AGRICULTURAL SUPPORT MEASURES WITH INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS IN THE PROCESS OF UZBEKISTAN'S ACCESSION TO THE WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION

Uzbekistan is currently on the verge of acceding to the World Trade Organization (WTO). As of the end of 2025, the country has concluded bilateral negotiations with 33 out of 34 member states, harmonized over 30 legislative instruments with WTO requirements, and resolved more than 200 issues in working party meetings. The objective is clear: to achieve full membership before the 14th Ministerial Conference to be held in Cameroon in 2026. However, one of the most complex challenges along this path is the alignment of state agricultural support with WTO rules. Why is this a problem? Because WTO members monitor government subsidies provided to each other's farmers and impose restrictions on states that provide excessive support.
