资源简介:
The list aims to present meditative emblem books as a segment of Catholic book production in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The chosen religious emblems were written between c. 1570–1775 and consist of a graphic component and a meditation in verse and/or prose in the subscription (prosaic subscriptions were more common). I have based my selection on a fundamental bibliography by Paulina Buchwald-Pelcowa and complemented it with my own archival findings. Additionally, I have included illustrated rosaries since they fulfil the requirements of both meditative and emblematic literature. I have focused on texts written primarily in Polish and Latin by authors who identified themselves as Poles or Lithuanians (but there are also some translation into Polish). The table forms a complementary part of the article A. Bielak, Meditative Emblems in Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (1570–1775) in: The Catholic Reformation and the Book, eds. J. Kiliańczyk-Zięba, M. Komorowska, Leiden, Boston: Brill, 2023 (accepted for publication), which describes the method of selecting the material and proposes its comprehensive overview.
