Neocosmospora species are saprobes, endophytes, and pathogens belonging to the family Nectriaceae. To date, 129 morphological species have been described and published. In this study, we report a novel fungus, Neocosmospora mangrovei (MFLUCC 17-0253; MFLUCC 17-0257), and a new country record of N. ferruginea (MFLUCC 17-0259). The strains were isolated from mangrove habitats in the Southern southern part of Thailand. Detailed descriptions, illustrations, and a multi-locus phylogenetic tree showing the placement of both species are provided. In the phylogenetic analyses of the combined ef1-a, ITS, LSU, and RPB2 regions, the new species clustered within the Neocosmospora clade with strong statistical support. The genome of Neocosmospora mangrovei MFLUCC 17-0253 and bioinformatics analysis revealed a 41 potential biosynthetic gene clusters. The two species showed potential as biocontrol agents against Colletotrichum spp., Specificallyspecifically, N. mangrovei MFLUCC 17-0253 exhibited strong antifungal activity to control C. truncatum MFLUCC CG-0064, while N. ferruginea MFLUCC 17-0259 exhibited antifungal activity toward C. acutatum MFLUCC CC-0036.
