Field Program as Planned\r\n\r\n- Survey for coordination of the survey control network on ITRF 2000.\r\n\r\n- Checking the accuracy of the recently completed Macquarie Island topographic map.\r\n\r\n- Correction of a known map contour anomaly on Wireless Hill.\r\n\r\n- Mapping of new structures in the ANARE station area.\r\n\r\n- Maintenance of existing survey control marks\r\n\r\n- Tide gauge levelling - assistance to Bob Twilley of Geosciences Australia.\r\n\r\n- Sea level calibration of the tide gauge situated adjacent to the ANARE station.\r\n\r\nField Program as Implemented\r\n\r\nAll field survey was carried out using Lieca 530 dual frequency GPS; in the static mode for control and post processed kinematic for mapping.\r\n\r\nWednesday 13th March\r\n\r\n- Inspection of tide gauge site and AUS91, AUS92, AUS228 and AAE BM1.\r\n\r\n- Ground survey in area of survey anomaly and other discrete features on Wireless Hill.\r\n\r\n- Survey for coordination of NMX/1 on ITRF 2000.\r\n\r\nThursday 14th March to Sunday 17th March\r\n\r\n- Inspection/maintenance of existing survey control marks NMAX/1, NMX/1, AUS190, AUS191,AUS227, ST937, NMX/6, NMX/7.\r\n\r\n- Survey for coordination of NMX/7, NMX/6, AUS188 (mark damaged), AUS191 and ST937 for coordination of the Macquarie Island on ITRF2000.\r\n\r\n- Placement and survey of SPM10581 at Green Gorge hut.\r\n\r\n- Survey on the southern half of Macquarie Island for map checking purposes. Survey of a representative sample of tracks, lakes, ridges and natural surface for heights and HWM.\r\n\r\nMonday 18th March\r\n\r\n- Mapping of new structures in the ANARE station area.\r\n\r\n- Survey on the isthmus area adjacent to the ANARE station, mapping the HWM and coastal vegetation edge, and a further number of discrete features.\r\n\r\n- Assistance to Bob Twilley of Geosciences Australia in first order levelling of the tide gauge / ARGN GPS station (MAC1 / AUS211) connection.\r\n\r\nSea level calibration of the tide gauge situated adjacent to the ANARE station was not achieved due to time limitations and rough sea conditions during the potentially available time for this activity.\r\n\r\nThe survey report is available for downloading - see the Related URLs below.\r\n\r\nThe Australian Antarctic Data Centre has included in its GIS database three polygons from the survey data relating to section 4 of the report. The polygons represent three buildings at Macquarie Island Station: the Stores Annex erected in January 2001, the Vehicle Shed and the Boat Shed. The Stores Annex was damaged by a storm in 2003 and was removed during the 2003-04 summer. The Vehicle Shed and the Boat Shed are included in the Macquarie Island station buildings GIS data available for downloading from a Related URL below. These two polygons have Dataset_ID = 125.
