For more information view the supporting documentation Download the data in ESRI FGDB format from ArcGIS Online Gisborne District Council (GDC) requested Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research (MWLR) produce morphometric landslide-to-stream connectivity layers for rainfall-induced shallow landslides to support future land use planning in the region. The morphometric connectivity layers represent the spatial probability of runout from a shallow landslide reaching the stream network. These layers are based on statistical models developed by MWLR as part of the Smarter Targeting of Erosion Control (STEC) MBIE Endeavour program. Initial work by Spiekermann et al. (2022) described an earlier version of the model. Subsequently, this modelling approach has been further developed using an expanded landslide dataset (Tsyplenkov et al. 2023). In July 2024, GDC contracted MWLR to produce an update to the landslide connectivity layers that incorporated the gully spatial data. This new work involved: including the mapped gullies as part of the digital channel network and updating the landslide-to-stream connectivity modelling to incorporate gullies as a ‘target’ adding the mapped gully features to the updated class-based raster layer and showing gullies as a separate class The Transition zone uses classes from the 'Gisborne Morphometric Landslide Susceptibility and Connectivity Version 1.1' Class 4 - Moderate Landslide Susceptibility and High Connectivity to Waterways Class 7 - High Landslide Susceptibility and High Connectivity to Waterways Gullies - Gully Erosion. This layer is a guide only and has no regulatory impact.
