资源简介:
The Northampton Infirmary Eighteenth Century Child Admission Database (NIECCAD) is drawn from the larger Northampton Infirmary Admission Registers, but only includes individuals aged 13 and younger. The original records are curated at the Northampton General Hospital Museum and Archive. Ages are recorded for individuals from 1744 to 1804, while the reason for admission (i.e., distemper) is recorded from 1744 to 1801. The years 1797 and 1798 are missing. All registers were transcribed verbatim. Recorders added a Sex column and estimated sex based upon patient names. Recorders added a Parish Translation column to standardize spellings of various parishes. Recorders added a Distemper Translation column to standardize spellings of recorded distempers. A Diagnostic Category column was added to categorize the recorded distempers into the categories outlined by Guenter Risse in "Hospital Life in Enlightenment Scotland: Care and Teaching at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (Cambridge University Press, 1986), 124. Recorders also added an Extra Notes column to make note of any observations as they transcribed. The NIECCAD officially includes 4163 patients, though there are 4210 individuals in the dataset. The final 47 patients have admission dates, names, parishes, and ages recorded, but no distemper or discharge information. These 47 individuals were not included in the Mant et al. (2025) Medical History publication.
