Abstract Spacetime joins space and time into a single geometric arena where events are labeled by four coor-dinates. This paper gives a complete introduction to spacetime and the four dimensions, with emphasis on the physical ideas, the mathematical structures, the decisive experiments, and the main applications. We first build the historical pathway from classical physics to the relativity of Einstein and Minkowski. We then present the core equations that govern motion and measurement in flat Minkowski spacetime and in curved spacetime with gravity. Key predictions such as time dilation, length contraction, and the relativity of simultaneity are derived and illustrated. The paper then reviews experimental support that spans more than a century, including Michelson–Morley, particle lifetime dilation, gravitational redshift, gravitational lensing, binary pulsar decay, and modern gravitational wave detections. Finally, we show how these ideas power cosmology, particle physics, and GPS technology.
