Data and Code for "Is Transparency a Panacea for AI? The Impact of Transparency in Rationale and Process on Perceived Legitimacy in AI-assisted Decision Making"

The study examined the effect of AI transparency on perceived legitimacy among citizens. A survey experiment employing a factorial between-subjects design was conducted. The experimental setting focuses on public official recruitment in China.Embedded within the recruitment scenario, our vignette employs a 3 x 3 factorial design. The data were collected through the professional panel provider “Credemo” to target a sample in China. A total of 1,000 participants were recruited, but 66 were excluded due to speeding, failing the attention check, and incomplete responses. As a result, the final sample consisted of 934 participants, yielding an effective response rate of 93.4%.
