The distinct marsupial branch of gammaherpesviruses.. Marsupial gammaherpesviruses

In mammalian herpesvirus genetics and evolution, there exists a large taxonomic gap corresponding to those that infect marsupials, which diverged from eutherian mammals approximately 150 million years ago (mya). In this study, we compare the genomes of two marsupial gammaherpesviruses; Phascolarctid gammaherpesvirus 1 (PhaHV-1) and Vombatid gammaherpesvirus 1 (VoHV-1), which infect koalas (Phascolartos cinereus) and wombats (Vombatus ursinus), respectively.
