Survey of saproxylic fungi across parks of New Jersey

Fungal fruit bodies growing on dead wood (tree trunks or branches) were observed and some collected at various locations throughout the parks of the state of New Jersey during June-October of 2017 and 2018; collection was supervized by the New Jersey Mycological Association (NJMA). Collecting was performed during two hours, across a 1 mile (1.6 km) trail from the starting point (see latitude and longitude for each park). Pictures of samples and GPS coordinates were recorded using iNaturalist phone app and uploaded to the online database. Some species were identified immediately using field guides. Tissues were stored at -80°C for DNA isolation and identification. Most of the speices have their ID confirmed via ITS sequencing.
