We characterized and purified female germ line stem cells (GSCs) from the ovaries of grass carp fry three months after fertilization. Transplanting female grass carp GSCs into zebrafish larvae with depleted germ cells to generate replacement zebrafish. Transplanted female grass carp GSC underwent accelerated spermatogenesis in zebrafish receptors. Three months after transplantation, the zebrafish recipient developed into a male capable of producing fully X-shaped sperm from the donor grass carp female GSC. Transplanting female grass carp GSCs into zebrafish larvae with depleted germ cells to generate replacement zebrafish. Transplanted female grass carp GSC underwent accelerated spermatogenesis in zebrafish receptors.
