VPRS 15582 Recommendations of Land for Sale by Auction, Ballarat

This series consists of bound copies of pro formas forwarded to the Melbourne office of the Department of Crown Lands (VA 538) from Ballarat. These pro forma listed the lands which the Ballarat office was recommending to be sold at scheduled auctions and auctions to be scheduled. Details given are of the type of land (Town, Country or Special), the number of the lot, the location of the land (County, Parish and allotment and section), the area, the upset (or minimum) price per acre, the amount of the valuation and the owner of any improvements where the land was occupied under license or lease. On the back of the pro forma is the other information to be provided regarding the land and the sales. This was about the general situation of the land for the advertisement in the Government Gazette, the nature of the land whether the area was auriferous (i.e gold bearing) or not, the possible location for the sale, the most appropriate newspaper for its advertisement, the number of copies of lithographed plans required prior to the sale and the plans necessary for the preparation of the proclamation of the sale. These datails would then be used in the preparation of the sale documentation such as the records in VPRS 799 Schedule of Lands for Sale by Public Auction and VPRS 873 Sale Contract Books.
