Moth outbreaks cause cascading effects on mountain birch forest ecosystems in subarctic Fennoscandia. This project focuses on studying impacts of moth herbivory on soil fungal community and on formation of root fungal communities of new mountain birch seedlings (Betula pubescens ssp. czerepanovii). We applied experimental setup where simulated and natural moth herbivory were studied in field in northern (69°N) Finland. Root-associated fungal communities were determined by sequencing fungal rDNA on ITS2 region on Ion Torrent PMG platform.
