Whole-genome sequencing of Uruguayan Toxoplasma gondii strains

Toxoplasma gondii is a protozoan parasite and a major cause of abortion in sheep in Uruguay. In South America, infections are frequently associated with non-archetypal, non-clonal genotypes that differ from the classical clonal lineages prevalent in other regions. In this project, two non-clonal T. gondii strains, TgUru1 and TgUru2, were isolated from ovine abortion cases in Uruguay and subjected to whole-genome sequencing. These genome data provide a resource for studying the genetic diversity of T. gondii strains circulating in livestock in South America.
