Phenol bioremediation from groundwater

This study explored impacts of bioaugmentation and biostimulation on phenol removal from groundwater. A phenol-degrading consortium was successfully isolated from a water well located in research institute of petroleum industry, Tehran, Iran. To investigate the microbial diversity of the consortium, next-generation sequencing (NGS) was performed. Next, the consortium's potential for phenol removal from groundwater was investigated in batch experiments. In addition, the impact of bioaugmentation and biostimulation on phenol removal from groundwater through column continues experiments were investigated. The microbial diversity of the columns were investigated by next-generation sequencing (NGS). Also, in this project, whole metagenome of groundwater before and after 6 months of phenol pollution were studied.
