Gallocanta Rewetting Experiment

In the last decade, carbon dioxide (CO2) fluxes from dry inland waters have been shown to play a significant role in global carbon budgets. Nevertheless, there is still a significant gap in knowledge on how CO2 fluxes from dry sediments respond to occasional rewetting, and the abiotic and biotic carbon exchange mechanisms shaping these responses. To contribute to this gap, we conducted a field rewetting experiment to determine rain-related variations in CO2 fluxes, associated stable isotopes (13C-CO2) and microbial community composition and activity in long-term dry sediments of Lake Gallocanta.
