A Dataset of Origin Motifs of Major Chinese Mythological Characters

The data set is an Excel data table, which contains multi-level origin narrative data of 50 common mythical characters in China in multi ethnic and multi regional areas, covering the causes, ways, times, places and other major types of the characters. Among them, the "generation methods of characters" category is divided into eight sub types: spontaneous generation, marriage, birth, and induction. The data collection time range is from 200 BC to December 2022, with a total of 1620 pieces of data. Each piece of data includes 10 fields of information, including serial number, character's name, primary theme, secondary theme, tertiary theme, fourth theme, nationality, case description, place of circulation and literature source.
