The purpose of this study was to examine the active fraction of the prokaryotic community in halocline sediments of three deep hyper saline anoxic basins in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, L'Atalante, Discovery, and Urania, based on extraction of total RNA, and targeting the small subunit ribosomal RNA gene from cDNA pools of individual samples.
