Commissariat Building - Bytown Museum - Integrated Project Dossier (2014)

The Commissariat Building, currently known as the Bytown Museum, is renowned for its history, construction, and occupancy, all of which will be detailed in this Integrated Project Dossier. The scope of work includes: surveying the building manually and with the aid of technology, cataloging and exploring the architectural features of the building that add to its value, and preparing this detailed report on the Building as it stands today. The Building was catalogued using several techniques including hand surveys, photography and a Total Station. In addition to exploring the value of the original historical elements, current and contextual elements of the building that had not previously been considered as heritage value were also investigated. It is important that these three groups be distinguishable, as the Building has changed uses over time, and its surroundings and location have evolved. It is evident in speaking with the custodians of the Bytown Museum that there are features that were not original to the 1826 construction that plays an important role in the character of the Building today.
