Current Questions on the Refugee Situation (August 2021)

On behalf of the Press and Information Office of the Federal Government, the opinion research institute Kantar conducted a short survey in May 2021 on the attitudes of the German population towards the refugee situation. The focus is on attitudes towards refugee issues and the work of the Federal Government in this area.<br>1. Trend questions: concern about high refugee numbers; assessment on advantages and disadvantages of taking in refugees (short-term and long-term); assessment of progress made by the federal government in dealing with the refugee situation.

2. Conflicts in Germany between different groups (rich and poor, employers and employees, young and old, foreigners and Germans, East Germans and West Germans, women and men, left-wing and right-wing political forces, refugees and migrants already living here for a longer period of time); opinion on the deportation of rejected asylum applicants from Afghanistan (continued deportation to Afghanistan vs. deportation stop due to the current security situation in Afghanistan).

Demography: sex; age; education; occupation; household size; number of persons in the household aged 14 and over; party preference; voter eligibility; net household income.

Additionally coded were: Respondent ID; weighting factor; interview date; BIK locality size; federal state; west/east; mobile vs. landline; occupational category.
