Imagining Future Relationships Between AI, State, And Society

This thesis examined how European states are using AI as both a concept and tool to create and embed social and political roles and relationships now and into the future. It did so by developing the idea of 'technical policy narratives', alongside a conceptual framework to critically engage with them. This framework was then applied to an analysis of European National AI Strategies and three country case studies where AI was applied to social policy contexts.
