(Be2Cl5)2N2 is Cubic Laves structured and crystallizes in the cubic Fd-3m space group. The structure is zero-dimensional and consists of sixteen ammonia molecules and eight Be2Cl5 clusters. In each Be2Cl5 cluster, Be2+ is bonded to four Cl1- atoms to form corner-sharing BeCl4 tetrahedra. There are one shorter (1.99 Å) and three longer (2.04 Å) Be–Cl bond lengths. There are two inequivalent Cl1- sites. In the first Cl1- site, Cl1- is bonded in a water-like geometry to two equivalent Be2+ atoms. In the second Cl1- site, Cl1- is bonded in a single-bond geometry to one Be2+ atom.
