Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants in India: plant-level features, model results and gas-grid siting scores

Plant-level dataset of the 776 Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants registered on the GOBARdhan portal (Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, India; snapshot 22 October 2026). Each plant is joined with distance to the nearest gas-pipeline IP/SV with tap-off, residual CBG intake capacity of its city-gas geographical area, crop residue and cattle/buffalo dung within 20 km, nearby competing capacity, project design and developer markers. The package also contains cross-validated machine-learning results (logistic regression, random forest, XGBoost) classifying operational versus not-yet-started plants, SHAP feature importance, robustness analyses, siting scores for 6,257 grid cells within 75 km of a tap-off, and a ranking of 701 tap-off points.
