Earth BioGenome Project (EBP)

The goal of the Earth BioGenome Project (EBP) is to generate or collect at least one high-quality reference genome assembly of all named eukaryotic species, and to utilize those genomes to address fundamental questions in biology, disease, and conservation. This EBP Umbrella BioProject brings together and coordinates tracking of all such genomes and projects that reach a specific set of metrics, and that are publicly available to the community. The aspired minimum assembly metrics as of March 2021 are: contig N50 continuity > 1 Mb: scaffolding NG50 continuity > 10 Mb; > QV40 base call accuracy ( 90% kmer completeness; > 90% sequence assigned to candidate chromosomal sequences; > 90% single copy conserved genes (e.g. BUSCO); > 90% transcripts from the same organism mappable; haplotype phasing whenever possible. For species with chromosome NG50 smaller than one megabase, then contig and scaffold N50 should be chromosome-scale.
