Supporting dataset for: Seed dispersal by brown bears promotes trophic facilitation in a human-dominated landscape

This dataset contains the supporting data (Excel file) for the manuscript entitled <i>"Seed dispersal by brown bears promotes trophic facilitation in a human-dominated landscape"</i>, submitted for publication. The study investigates the secondary use of seeds deposited in brown bear scats by rodents and birds, using trail cameras to monitor animal interactions with scats.Data were collected in the <b>Western Cantabrian Mountains (northwestern Spain)</b> between <b>June and September 2024</b>.In addition to wildlife detections, the dataset includes several environmental and contextual explanatory variables relevant to the analyses. Full descriptions of the methods are provided in the main article and supplementary materials, which will be available upon acceptance and publication.The dataset is provided as an <b>.xlsx file</b> with headers in the first row, and it comprises six sheets:<b>Sheet 1 – GLM Data</b>: Contains data used for generalized linear models (GLMs) examining the effects of environmental variables on:The number of photographic captures of <i>Apodemus</i> mice removing seedsThe number of photographic captures of birds visiting the scatsThe time elapsed (in hours) from camera deployment (standardized to 12:00 pm) to the first detection of a rodent removing seeds. #N/A values represent no detection of rodents in that specific camera.<b>Sheet 2 – GLM Variable Definitions</b>: Provides definitions and descriptions of the variables included in Sheet 1.<b>Sheet 3 – Recurrent Event (PAMM) Data</b>: Contains data used for recurrent event analyses (Piecewise Exponential Additive Mixed Models – PAMM), consisting of independent photographic captures (≥1-minute interval) of multiple species, along with date and time of each capture.<b>Sheet 4 – PAMM Variable Definitions</b>: Lists and explains the variables included in Sheet 3.<b>Sheet 5 – Species Classification</b>: Provides the full scientific names of species detected during the study, as well as the categories assigned to each species for the overlap and recurrent event analyses presented in the article.<b>Sheet 6 – Species Sheet Definitions</b>: Explains the variables included in Sheet 5.Data were analyzed using <b>R statistical software</b> (www.r-project.org), using packages cited in the methods section of the main article.This dataset is shared <b>publicly under a license type CC BY 4.0</b>.For questions about the dataset, please contact <b>Héctor Ruiz-Villar</b> at [e-mail] or via ORCID: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6133-1618.
