This statistic shows the answers on a survey question on the total value of cash money, debit card, credit card, fuel card or other card payment transactions in petrol stations in the Netherlands in 2012, 2014 and 2017 (in billion euros). Debit cards were widely used, with seven billion euros worth in transactions being mentioned in 2017. This was much less the case for credit cards.Within Europe there is a lot of diversity when it comes to the use of payment methods. Every country has its own way of paying money, with credit/debit cards, checks, mobile apps, NFC (Near-Field Communication, or contactless payments) and digital wallets being the most well-known digital payments methods in Europe.
