In a floor element (3) comprising a wood fiber-based core (30) and a surface layer (31，32) that is attached to a surface (33) of the core， it is foreseen that at least one groove (41) is provided in the surface (33) of the core， said at least one groove (41) being arranged in a portion of the floor element (3) where a mechanical locking system (6，8，9，10，12) is to be formed， and said at least one groove (41) being provided with an elastically deformable material (50，50a，50b，51) and/or an impregnation agent.
