VPRS 3415 Animal Deaths (1937); List of Employees (1937) and Ticket Issue Register (1937-1942)

This series has been used to record three different functions Animal Deaths [1937] List of Employees [1937] and Ticket Issue Register [1937-42]. Originally the series was originally used as a register of Deaths and Post Mortem Results ie animal deaths at the gardens from January to April 1937. The date, species and cause of death is recorded. Register of Deaths of Animals and Birds at Zoological Gardens (VPRS 2228) duplicates the evidence of animal deaths recorded in VPRS 3415.There is also a list of employees at the back of the volume. It records the names of 31 employees and their positions at the Royal Melbourne Zoological Gardens for the year 1937. Zoological Gardens employees were not public servants as the Zoological Board of Victoria (VA 572) was a statutory authority not a government department. The employees seem to be keepers, ground and maintenance staff but this cannot be stated conclusively as some employee positions are not recorded. The list also records the retirement of employees and what appears to be the name of their successor.The volume has then been used to record the issuing of ticket rolls to staff at the Gardens. Recorded is the ticket roll number, the date the roll was issued and the date the roll was exhausted. VPRS 3415 Animal Deaths [1937] List of Employees [1937] Ticket Issue Register [1937-42] also provides evidence of the issuing of Zoo souvenirs to staff for sale to visitors. Examples of souvenirs include zoo plans and post cards.This series was previously registered with the title Ticket Stock Register.
