Productive Destruction and Existential Regeneration

Abstract Destruction is traditionally interpreted as a negative phenomenon associated with violence, loss, disorder, collapse, and existential deterioration. Across philosophy, psychology, and social theory, destructive processes are frequently understood as threats to stability, identity, and human flourishing. This article challenges this assumption by proposing the Theory of Productive Destruction (TPD), an ontological framework that conceptualizes destruction as a necessary condition for existential regeneration. The theory argues that human existence is structured by cycles of formation, stabilization, exhaustion, rupture, and reconstruction. Because all existential structures are finite, every identity, value system, symbolic order, and subjective organization eventually accumulates entropy. When accumulated entropy exceeds adaptive capacity, structural dissolution becomes unavoidable. Within this framework, destruction is not merely a force of negation but a mechanism through which exhausted existential configurations are dismantled, enabling the emergence of new forms of coherence and meaning. The article introduces the distinction between entropic destruction and regenerative destruction, develops an ontological model of transformative rupture, and argues that productive destruction constitutes one of the fundamental dynamics of existential becoming.
