Data extraction spreadsheet for scoping review on digital interventions for anxiety reduction in pediatrics

This dataset was developed as part of a scoping review titled "Digital Interventions for Anxiety Reduction in Hospitalized Pediatric Patients"
The research's central question was: "What technological interventions are used to reduce anxiety in hospitalized pediatric patients, and what evidence exists regarding their effectiveness?"
A literature search was conducted in ScienceDirect, IEEE, and PubMed from 2000 to March 2025.
The query was ("video*" OR "digital" OR "comput*" OR "technolog*" OR "reality" OR "serious game” ) AND ("child*" OR "pediatri*" OR "paediatri*") AND ("hospital*") AND (anxiety OR stress OR "well-being"). For the databases that do not support truncation (wildcard) search, many queries were used with various common variations of each term.
Inclusion criteria: published in the English language; involved pediatric participants who were less than 19 y.o and hospitalized for more than 1 day; and investigated any type of computer technology-based intervention, either isolated or in combination with other therapies for anxiety reduction; articles need to present the intervention method, tests and results data/analyses and to be published after 2000.
The dataset includes:
– Results of the initial database search;
– A broader set of studies addressing anxiety reduction through digital interventions, including those focused on single medical procedures;
– Detailed data on the final 12 studies that fully met all inclusion criteria.
